Colli del Sangro

Recognised since 2026, the Colli del Sangro wine denomination occupies a highly unusual position within the European Union’s protected geographical indications (PGI). What distinguishes Colli del Sangro from any active wine-producing neighbour is its complete absence of operational territory and active viticulture. According to official registries, the geographical area is mapped with exactly zero municipalities, and there are currently zero verified producers associated with the designation. Rather than representing an active vineyard landscape, this IGT exists as a vacant administrative entity, presenting a unique cartographic curiosity where a designated wine origin contains neither land nor vintners.
