Saluzzo, home to over 17,000 residents in Piedmont’s southwestern Cuneo province, serves as the fertile epicenter for 20 protected designations. Rising from the alpine foothills, this territory nurtures the local Colline Saluzzesi DOC wine, a denomination restricted to a tight zone of just 13 municipalities. The dramatic temperature shifts between day and night in these foothill orchard belts also yield the crisp, vibrant Mela Rossa Cuneo IGP, a protected apple cultivated across 45 local communities. Here, alpine breezes cool the clay-loam soils, creating a highly specific microclimate where mountain viticulture and fruit orchards thrive side by side.
