Perched at an elevation of 258 meters on the strategic ridge dividing the Versa and Grana valleys, Calliano Monferrato leverages its distinct topography to craft exceptional wines. The municipality boasts 17 protected denominations, led by the highly localized Grignolino d'Asti DOC, a pale yet tannic red wine cultivated across a restricted zone of just 34 municipalities. This specialized viticultural environment also nurtures the fragrant Freisa d'Asti DOC, which extends across 117 municipalities. Here, the sharp temperature swings between the two valleys concentrate the grapes' essential oils, defining the authentic character of these historic Piedmontese wines.
