Massarosa

Historically carved out of coastal Viareggio in the late nineteenth century, Massarosa transitions the province of Lucca from sandy Tyrrhenian shores to fertile hillsides. This unique ecological position allows the municipality to nurture 15 protected denominations. Chief among these is the highly localized Lucca DOP extra virgin olive oil, harvested across a select zone of just 19 municipalities, alongside the coastal-influenced Costa Toscana IGT wines. Today, this maritime-influenced landscape is kept alive by 1 verified local producer who opens their doors to curious travelers, offering an authentic taste of this distinct transition.
