Bannio Anzino

Tucked away in the rugged slopes of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province, the tiny alpine enclave of Bannio Anzino—home to fewer than five hundred residents—shapes a distinct mountain terroir where 15 protected denominations overlap. This high-altitude landscape directly influences Ossolano DOP, a semi-hard cheese crafted from the milk of cows grazing on steep mountain pastures. The elevation and cool climate also foster the delicate alpine artemisia plants harvested for Genepì del Piemonte IG. Here, remote geography and ancient herding methods preserve some of Piedmont's most characteristic and intensely aromatic alpine flavors.
