Calasca-Castiglione

In the fragmented alpine hamlets of Calasca-Castiglione, clinging to the rugged slopes of the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province, extreme geography shapes unique flavors. This scattered mountain community nurtures 15 protected food and beverage denominations. Chief among these is Ossolano DOP, a raw milk cheese aged in local cellars and shared with just 37 neighboring municipalities in the valley. The high altitude and wild pastures also define Genepì del Piemonte IG, an aromatic spirit distilled from alpine artemisia. Here, vertical grasslands and steep woodlands translate directly into complex dairy and herbaceous notes.
