Romangia

Established in 1999 within five northern Sardinian municipalities, including Castelsardo and Sennori, the Romangia IGT occupies a distinct niche where traditional Sardinian varieties are heavily restricted. While most regional geographic indications allow standard single-variety labeling for dominant grapes, Romangia explicitly excludes signature varieties like Cannonau, Vermentino, and Carignano from its standard 85 percent single-variety rule. Instead, these grapes can be utilized in multi-varietal blends, including dual-variety bottles where the minority grape must exceed 15 percent. This regulatory approach ensures that base red and white wines, which carry a generous maximum yield of 19.2 t/ha, remain distinct from neighboring single-varietal DOCs.
