Ronchi Varesini
Wine · PGI · 94 municipalities
Recognised since 2007, the Ronchi Varesini IGT covers an unusually extensive production zone of 94 municipalities across the province of Varese, including Angera and Albizzate, excluding only the northern mountainous terrain. What sets this denomination apart from typical Italian IGTs is its explicit authorization of supplementary emergency irrigation—known as "soccorso" irrigation—to support the vines. Whether producing rosso, rosato, or bianco, all wines must reach a minimum alcohol level of 11.0% volume at consumption, with a maximum yield capped at 14.0 tonnes per hectare. Despite these detailed standards, the appellation currently records zero verified active producers.
