Recognized since 1999, the Rubicone IGT spans 85 municipalities within Emilia-Romagna, including Alfonsine and Bertinoro. What sets this denomination apart from its regional peers is its exacting standard for red passito wines. While general yields for Rubicone white wines can reach up to 29.0 tons per hectare, its red passitos are restricted exclusively to Malbo gentile, Uva Longanesi, and Sangiovese grapes. These concentrated dessert wines must achieve a minimum alcohol level of 13% vol and are constrained by a low finished-wine yield cap of 50%, which is significantly more restrictive than the 80% yield permitted for the appellation's other styles.
