Priero

In the quiet hills of Cuneo, the tiny Piedmontese commune of Priero—home to fewer than 500 residents—nourishes an impressive agricultural heritage shaped by its cool alpine-influenced climate. This pocket of land claims 19 protected denominations, most notably the creamy, sheep-milk Murazzano DOP, which is restricted to a small zone of just 50 municipalities. The grassy pastures also sustain the production of Raschera DOP, while the surrounding fields yield the prized Fagiolo Cuneo IGP. Here, low-intensity farming and centuries-old herding customs preserve flavors that larger, more industrial regions have long since lost.
