Carate Urio

Carate Urio, a lakeside enclave of just over a thousand residents in the province of Como, harnesses its steep shoreline microclimate to cultivate grapes for the Terre Lariane IGT. This local denomination, shared with 180 other municipalities, thrives on the sun-exposed slopes rising from the water, yielding crisp, mineral-forward wines. Beyond the vines, the territory's humid lake air and alpine breezes shape the curing of Salame Brianza DOP, a specialty produced across a zone of 286 municipalities. In total, 15 protected denominations overlap in this narrow alpine corridor, transforming a compact lakeside territory into a diverse gastronomic hub.
