Montemezzo

Overlooking the steep western upper reaches of Lake Como, the tiny mountain enclave of Montemezzo harnesses alpine drafts and lake breezes to shape its distinct agricultural output. This high-altitude climate, typical of the Lario valleys, fosters the viticulture behind Terre Lariane IGT, a wine denomination limited to a zone of 180 municipalities. These same rugged alpine conditions influence the curing of local charcuterie. In total, 15 protected denominations overlap in this territory, including Salame Brianza DOP, which develops its characteristic sweetness during aging in the specialized hilly microclimate bordering the lake watershed.
