Malegno’s steep slopes, carved by prehistoric glaciers in Brescia’s rugged Camonica Valley, create a sharp alpine microclimate that defines its local agriculture. Within this dramatic topography, mountain vines cling to terraced hillsides to yield the mineral-rich Valcamonica IGT, a prized wine denomination restricted to a zone of only 24 municipalities. The alpine breezes sweeping down the valley also provide an optimal environment for cheese production. This alpine outpost serves as a production hub for historic cheeses like Provolone Valpadana DOP, a specialty spanning a larger zone of 726 municipalities.
