Glorenza/Glurns

Glorenza, a fortified alpine stronghold in the upper Venosta Valley, guards ancient trade routes behind its fully preserved medieval city walls. Inside this protected valley basin, 15 protected denominations flourish. The area’s dry, windswept climate directly shapes the production of Südtiroler Zwetschgeler IG, a plum spirit distilled from local orchards, and the expressive Mitterberg IGT wines. These local specialties coexist with crunchy Südtiroler Schüttelbrot IGP flatbread, illustrating how this tiny fortified settlement has sustained South Tyrol's distinct alpine food culture since the Middle Ages.
