Laces/Latsch

Swept by dry winds in the rain-shadow of the Ortler Alps, the sun-baked slopes of Laces/Latsch along the upper Adige River foster a unique high-altitude microclimate. This alpine territory yields 16 protected denominations. Chief among them is the Alto Adige DOC, a wine designation spanning a zone of 52 municipalities, where dramatic elevation gradients produce crisp, aromatic white wines. The arid mountain air also aids the production of crunchy Südtiroler Schüttelbrot IGP flatbread and the distillation of local stone fruits into Südtiroler Zwetschgeler IG, reflecting the harsh yet rewarding Alpine terroir.
