Luson/Lüsen

Tucked away in the secluded Luson Valley branch of the Isarco basin, sheltered by the high-altitude pastures of the Lüsner Alm, Luson/Lüsen’s alpine climate shapes its mountain gastronomy. This alpine niche nurtures 15 protected denominations. The sharp thermal shifts between day and night define the alpine wines of the Mitterberg IGT, while the valley's orchards yield the stone fruits distilled into the traditional Südtiroler Zwetschgeler IG plum brandy. Alongside these liquids, the dry mountain air perfectly cures local meats and preserves the rye-based Südtiroler Schüttelbrot IGP, a hard flatbread born from historic preservation needs.
