At the steep gorge where the Gardena torrent rushes into the Isarco River, beneath the towering medieval ramparts of Trostburg Castle, Ponte Gardena/Waidbruck shapes a distinct alpine terroir. This narrow mountain corridor hosts 15 protected denominations. High-altitude orchards yield the stone fruits distilled into Südtiroler Zwetschgeler IG, a plum spirit produced across a shared zone of 116 municipalities. The alpine winds sweeping through this valley also dry and perfect the crunchy, spiced Südtiroler Schüttelbrot IGP rye flatbread, preserving the flavors of this strategic South Tyrolean passage.
