Longarone

Rising from the valley floor where the catastrophic 1963 Vajont landslide once erased the entire town, Longarone has forged a resilient gastronomic identity. This alpine corner of Belluno hosts 15 protected denominations, shaped by high-altitude ecosystems. The local flora feeds the bees producing Miele delle Dolomiti Bellunesi DOP, a mountain honey limited to a zone of 60 municipalities. Alongside, the mountain pastures yield the robust Piave DOP cheese, sharing the same restricted 60-municipality territory. These distinct tastes arise from rugged terrain that, despite historical tragedy, nurtures some of Veneto’s most characterful mountain delicacies.
