Bounded by the dense Cansiglio Forest and the windy shores of Lake Santa Croce in southern Belluno, Alpago provides a distinct alpine habitat that shapes its 15 protected food and wine denominations. Here, wild woodland flora fuels the production of Miele delle Dolomiti Bellunesi DOP, a rare mountain honey, while grassy slopes feed the dairy cattle for Piave DOP cheese. This high-altitude basin, rising from the Fadalto saddle, traps cool alpine currents sweeping down from the peaks, creating a unique microclimate where these specialized agricultural products thrive alongside ancient pastoral customs.
