In the northern province of Lecco, the small Lombardy community of Cortenova, home to fewer than 1,200 residents, nurtures an exceptional culinary heritage. Despite its modest size, this alpine valley territory overlaps with 15 protected denominations. The local climate and grazing lands shape prized cured meats and cheeses, most notably the sweet, spiced Salame Brianza DOP, which restricts its production to a specific zone of 286 municipalities.
