Caino

Caino shares its striking name with the biblical firstborn of Adam and Eve, the brother of Abel. In this Lombardy outpost, the rugged terrain of the Brescia province shapes 17 protected denominations. Chief among them are highly localized specialties, starting with Ronchi di Brescia IGT, a mountain-side wine designation limited to just 12 municipalities. It is joined by Nostrano Valtrompia DOP, an alpine cheese produced within a strict zone of 19 communities. The valley's steep slopes and swift temperature shifts concentrate the grapes' sugars and enrich the local dairy, creating rare, localized profiles.
