Vadena/Pfatten

Vadena/Pfatten occupies the flat alluvial basin of the Adige River, flanked by the steep porphyry cliffs of the Mitterberg and the medieval Laimburg ruins. This specific valley-floor topography, influenced by alpine winds and intense sun exposure, nurtures 18 protected denominations. Chief among these local specialties is the Lago di Caldaro DOC, a lakeside red wine designation limited to a zone of 18 municipalities, alongside the highly regarded Alto Adige DOC. The warm Ora wind blowing from the south creates an ideal microclimate, preventing moisture buildup on the vines and yielding light, ruby-red Schiava wines of distinct mineral character.
