Lago di Caldaro

Wine · PDO · 18 municipalities

Established in 1973, the Lago di Caldaro DOC highlights Schiava grape varieties grown across 18 municipalities in Trentino-Alto Adige. For the zone's 84 verified producers, this denomination stands apart by completely omitting a riserva category. Instead, quality tiers are strictly defined: the 'Scelto' or Auslese designation requires at least 11.50% total alcohol, bans any enrichment, and uniquely restricts bottling to 0.375-liter or 0.750-liter formats. Additionally, only wines produced in the historic core communes, such as Bronzolo and Caldaro, earn the 'classico' distinction, allowing them to carry 'Südtirol' or 'Alto Adige' on their labels.
