Cimone

While sharing its name with the fifth-century BC Athenian general who dominated classical Greek politics, the mountain village of Cimone in Trentino-Alto Adige looks to alpine heights rather than Aegean shores. Here, extreme topography yields 23 protected denominations. The highly localized Vallagarina IGT, shared with only 21 neighboring municipalities, benefits from the sharp diurnal temperature swings of these slopes. The same rugged alpine terrain also fosters the Casteller DOC, ensuring these high-altitude vineyards produce wines with a distinctive mountain character unique to this corner of Trento.
