Altesino

Altesino occupies the northeastern hills of Montalcino, where the austere walls of Palazzo Altesi overlook vineyards shaped by centuries of land stewardship. The company operates within the municipal boundaries of Montalcino—a territory inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2004—and expresses itself through a single denomination, Toscano IGT, which allows it room to interpret the landscape without the tight constraints of rigid regulations. Here, Sangiovese, Trebbiano Toscano, and Canaiolo Nero thrive in an environment that has remained on the fringes of industrial pressures, giving rise to a range that includes white, rosé, and red wines. Each type focuses on a different aspect of the dialogue between southern Tuscany and its terroir, as if the same hill told multiple versions of itself. The winery welcomes visitors to its historic spaces: it is well worth the journey up here to taste the entire range on-site and observe firsthand how a single municipality can express such diverse styles in the glass.
