Azienda Agricola Altomonte Antonino

Antonino Altomonte works in Palizzi, a village clinging to the slopes that close off southern Calabria and overlook the Strait of Messina. From this extreme position come wines of marked mineral intensity, distributed across four geographical indication denominations that sketch a small geography of taste: Pellaro and Palizzi focus on Nerello, the grape variety that reigns supreme here, while Costa Viola and Locride broaden the palette to the wider range of Calabrian reds. Overall, the portfolio covers the entire chromatic spectrum — structured reds, taut and crystalline whites, and crisp rosés — each a child of the Mediterranean light that bathes this corner of Calabria and the soils that support its rows. The four IGTs are not repetitions of the same idea, but nuances of the same territory: exposure, altitude, and grape character change, and with them, the voice of the wines. Altomonte weaves them together as a single narrative, that of a remote corner of the South that, bottle after bottle, asserts its identity.
