Casa Maschito
Maschito · Province of Potenza · Basilicata
Casa Maschito operates on the slopes of Monte Vulture, in Basilicata, where volcanic soils at six hundred and fifty meters of altitude define the terroir of Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOCG. The altitude and the mineral matrix of the soil give this red wine the structure and tension required by the guaranteed denomination, a result of a demanding environment rather than cellar artifice. The village of Maschito adds a rare cultural stratification: populated since the fifteenth century by Arbëreshe communities from Albania, it preserves a heritage language and a dual vocation for both vines and olive oil. The isolation of this micro-region from contemporary rhythms has protected long-standing winemaking practices, rooted in both the volcanic geology and the linguistic memory of the village. The result is an Aglianico that never separates the wine from its place: drinking it means reading a high-altitude slope and the history of its inhabitants, in a balance between lava rock and Arbëreshe heritage that few territories can claim.
