Biferno
Wine · PDO · 42 municipalities
In Molise's Biferno DOC, which spans 42 municipalities including Campobasso, the regulation imposes a strict topographic divide that sets it apart from neighbouring regions. While white grape vineyards are permitted up to 600 meters above sea level, vineyards destined for red, rosato, and riserva wines must not exceed an altitude of 500 meters. This red blend relies on a minimum of 70% Montepulciano structured by at least 10% Aglianico. Under this strict altitude cap, the grapes yield a dry, harmonious wine with a maximum yield of 14.0 tons per hectare, which develops an ethereal aroma when aged.
