San Giovanni in Croce

In the fertile lowland plains of Cremona, the small community of San Giovanni in Croce, home to fewer than 2,000 residents, nurtures some of Lombardy’s most prized agricultural treasures. This specific clay-rich terroir hosts 17 overlapping protected origins, led by the highly localized Melone Mantovano IGP, a remarkably sweet fruit cultivated within a restricted zone of just 41 municipalities. The area's humid river-basin microclimate also shapes the curing of Coppa di Parma IGP.
