Mazzin, a decentralized alpine municipality where municipal offices are housed in the hamlet of Fontanazzo rather than its namesake village, shapes its identity through high-altitude flavors. Among the 20 protected denominations overlapping this territory, the most localized is Puzzone di Moena DOP. This notoriously pungent cheese, produced in a restricted zone of just 22 municipalities, thrives on the pristine mountain pastures and forage characteristic of this corner of Trento. The rugged terrain also nurtures fruits and spirits, such as the crisp Mele del Trentino IGP, which draw their character directly from the dramatic temperature swings of these high-elevation slopes.
