Pennabilli lies in the rugged southern reach of the Rimini province, where the Apennines meet the historic Romagna-Marche borderland. In this mountainous enclave of under three thousand residents, 16 protected food and wine denominations thrive. Most notable is the Rimini DOC, a wine designation spanning a zone of 26 municipalities that captures the coastal-breeze-influenced climate of these inland hills. Sharing this terrain is the sheep-and-cow milk Casciotta d'Urbino DOP, a delicate cheese produced across a zone of 57 municipalities, reflecting Pennabilli's historical position bridging the Romagna coast and the Montefeltro highlands.
