Azienda vitivinicola Tenuta del Conte

In Cirò Marina, on the Ionian coast of Calabria, Tenuta del Conte operates in the chosen land of Gaglioppo, the grape variety that finds its most recognizable expression here. The winery oversees two DOC denominations — Cirò and Melissa — both rooted in the same strip of land overlooking the sea. The Cirò disciplinary embraces four municipalities and admits only red grape varieties suitable for regional cultivation, excluding varieties common elsewhere such as Barbera, Cabernet, and Sangiovese: a choice that protects the territory's identity. From this rigorous perimeter, Cirò is born in red, superiore, and superiore riserva versions, with a minimum alcohol content of 12%, a measure of the strength that the Ionian terroir imparts to Gaglioppo. Alongside, the Melissa denomination completes the interpretation of this part of the Crotone area, where the warmth and proximity of the sea contribute to defining the character of the reds. Two contiguous DOCs that tell, with distinct but related voices, the same Calabrian landscape overlooking the Ionian Sea.
