In 1971, English entrepreneur John Dunkley and his wife Palmina Abbagnano acquired 1.5 hectares adjacent to Badia a Coltibuono monastery, beginning a meticulous restoration of its stone villa and vineyard. Their 1973 vintage, released in 1975, inaugurated Riecine's dedicated pursuit of pure Sangiovese expressions rooted in Gaiole's unique terroir. Dunkley's vision—unwavering faith in the grape and its place—established the estate as a defining voice in modern Chianti Classico. Today, his and Palmina's legacy guides every decision at the winery.
