Erice
Wine · PDO · 7 municipalities
Established in 2006, the Erice DOC spans seven Sicilian municipalities, including Castellammare del Golfo. While neighboring appellations permit enrichment, Erice distinguishes itself by strictly prohibiting the practice across all wine types. This rule shapes Erice Bianco, a blend requiring a minimum of 60% Catarratto that must reach at least 12.0% minimum alcohol by volume. To preserve grape quality, growers are restricted to a maximum yield of 11.0 tons per hectare. Furthermore, the production code enforces strict training limits, permitting only the alberello and controspalliera methods while completely banning all expanded forms.
