Sabbioneta
Wine · PGI · 3 municipalities
Recognised since 1999, the Sabbioneta PGI is a highly localized wine denomination restricted to just three Mantovan municipalities—Commessaggio, Sabbioneta, and Viadana—positioned between the Oglio and Po rivers. It stands apart from neighboring Lombardy appellations through an unusually generous maximum yield limit of 26.0 tons per hectare and flexible rules that allow its combined "Lambrusco" designation (blending varieties like Viadanese and Maestri up to a minimum of 85%) to be vinified as a white wine. Despite these highly specific local production guidelines, this micro-appellation currently represents an inactive viticultural zone, officially registering zero verified producers.
