Barasso

Located in the undulating pre-Alpine landscapes of the Varese province in northern Lombardy, the small community of Barasso leverages its damp, breezy hillside climate to foster distinct agricultural treasures. This terrain shapes the delicate, goat-milk profile of Formaggella del Luinese DOP, a cheese limited to a zone of just 66 municipalities. The same slopes yield the crisp, mineral-rich Ronchi Varesini IGT wines, crafted within a select 94-municipality viticultural area. In total, 15 protected denominations overlap in this compact territory, where Alpine air meets lakeside moisture to cure meats and sweeten acacia honey.
