High up in the rugged Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province, the secluded alpine valley of Bognanco, home to fewer than 200 residents, channels its extreme mountain terrain into high-altitude flavors. This intense microclimate shapes the Valli Ossolane DOC, a distinctive mountain wine shared with only 16 other neighboring territories within its narrow 17-municipality zone. The same steep pastures sustain the production of Ossolano DOP, a raw milk cheese that captures the local herbal flora. In total, 17 protected denominations overlap in this pocket of Piedmont, where extreme altitude and isolation concentrate the character of every grape and curd.
