In the Sassari metropolitan area, the small northern Sardinian outpost of Florinas—home to fewer than 1,500 residents—shapes 15 protected denominations. The local limestone valleys and sun-baked soils favor the cultivation of the prickly Carciofo Spinoso di Sardegna DOP, a spiny artichoke shared with a select zone of 128 municipalities. This rugged terrain also nurtures sheep for the robust Fiore Sardo DOP cheese and grapes for Cannonau di Sardegna DOC.
