Perched 630 meters above sea level within the rugged Barbagia di Ollolai highlands, Sarule's high-altitude climate shapes its agricultural identity. This mountainous terrain yields exceptional viticulture, most notably the highly localized Barbagia IGT, a wine designation shared among just 15 municipalities. In total, the commune hosts 16 protected denominations, including the Provincia di Nuoro IGT and Cannonau di Sardegna DOC. The steep elevation and sharp diurnal temperature swings of this Nuoro territory concentrate the sugars and acidity in the grapes, making this specific Sardinian outpost a vital origin for deep, character-driven wines.
