ALTERRIS is based in Diano d'Alba, one of the eleven municipalities admitted to the Barolo DOCG, where calcareous sandstone at four hundred meters of altitude dictates the character of Nebbiolo and Dolcetto. The oldest vineyards are over sixty years old, and the winery bases its labels on this reserve of plants, interpreting the geological complexity of the area parcel by parcel. The range includes four Langhe denominations: Barolo DOCG, which requires a minimum of thirty-eight months of aging, Barbaresco DOCG, Dogliani DOCG, and their local Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba DOCG. Two grape varieties are at play—Nebbiolo for long-aging reds, Dolcetto for everyday wines—expressed across a mosaic of parcels that, from the ridges, offer views extending to Monviso and Monte Rosa. The difference between the denominations is entirely evident here: same producer, same starting soil, but opposite outcomes in terms of structure and destiny, from ready-to-drink wine to reds built to last for decades.
