Antiche Radici
Gragnano · Province of Napoli · Campania
Antiche Radici operates from Gragnano, in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, where three generations of the Iovine family have shaped the company's identity. Today, Francesca and Gilda Iovine lead the estate, focusing on three protected denominations: Vesuvio DOC, Catalanesca del Monte Somma IGT, and Pompeiano IGT. Vineyard work remains entrusted to ancestral knowledge—literally to the hands of grandfather Pasquale—while the cellar combines inherited techniques with a contemporary vision. The production range includes whites, rosés, and reds, from the mineral-toned Catalanesca to the more structured Aglianico. The volcanic slopes of Somma-Vesuvius represent a confined yet dense geography, where the lava soil imparts tension and savoriness to the grapes. The distinction between the three denominations is not geographical but stylistic: Catalanesca preserves a rare grape variety from the Somma side, while the Vesuvio and Pompeiano classifications broaden the scope to the entire area. The estate is not open to visitors, entrusting its bottles with the task of conveying the dual heritage—familial and volcanic—that defines its profile.
