Barbarossa Elio

In the Fucino plain, the reclaimed plateau of central Abruzzo, Barbarossa Elio cultivates Patata del Fucino IGP on soils that retain the memory of an ancient drained lake. It is precisely that rich, deep lakebed, along with the basin's altitude, that gives the tuber its firm flesh and intact skin, recognized as distinctive traits by the regulations. The denomination encompasses a restricted area of nine municipalities, within which cultivation adheres to rigorous standards for selection and yield. Barbarossa's work operates within these limits, linking the potato's quality to the soil characteristics rather than any forced cultivation. On a surface that for centuries was a body of water, contemporary agriculture thus gathers the territory's geological heritage, transforming the fertility of a vanished basin into a product with a clear and recognizable profile, rooted in one of the Apennines' most unique plains.
