In the sun-baked alluvial lowlands of Sardinia’s western Oristano province, Riola Sardo thrives in a maritime climate shaped by salty mistral winds. This unique terroir nurtures 23 protected denominations. Chief among these is the Valle del Tirso IGT, a wine born from a selective zone of just 16 municipalities along the river basin. The salty, oxidized Vernaccia di Oristano DOC, restricted to 17 local communes, also develops its distinctive amber hues under the flor yeast that thrives in these coastal temperatures. Here, brackish air and sandy soils transform viticulture into an art of survival.
