Nasco di Cagliari
Wine · PDO · 182 municipalities
Recognised since 1976, the Nasco di Cagliari DOC sets itself apart from neighbouring Sardinian white wine appellations by requiring 100% Nasco grapes, permitting no blending. Cultivated across 182 municipalities, starting alphabetically with Abbasanta, these vines produce wines with a minimum alcohol content of 13.5% vol. While the base still wine ranges from dry to sweet, the denomination's unique liquoroso riserva style demands a minimum of two years of aging, including at least one year in oak or chestnut barrels. This process develops a distinct amber color and an intense, ethereal aroma of ripe fruit, unique to this historic island specialty.
