Named after Saint Basil the Great, the prominent fourth-century Greek theologian and bishop, the Sardinian municipality of San Basilio honors its Byzantine-rooted heritage through a resilient viticultural landscape. Here, the local soils yield 19 protected denominations. Chief among these is the highly localized Trexenta IGT, a wine designation limited to a zone of 14 municipalities. This tight geographical limit allows local winemakers to showcase the unique limestone clays of the historical Trexenta subregion.
