Villaspeciosa

In the sun-baked lowlands of southern Sardinia, just a short distance from the metropolitan hub of Cagliari, the small agricultural enclave of Villaspeciosa—home to fewer than 2,700 residents—nurtures 19 protected denominations. This fertile territory is especially suited for cultivating the prickly, intense Carciofo Spinoso di Sardegna DOP, a prized spiny artichoke grown across a selected zone of 128 municipalities. Beside these fields, the local soils yield unique, historic grapes, feeding the production of the rare Girò di Cagliari DOC, a traditional red dessert wine that thrives in this warm, Mediterranean microclimate.
