Abate Claudia

Based in Desenzano del Garda, Abate Claudia operates within the Lugana DOC, a denomination that spans five municipalities straddling Lombardy and Veneto, on the southern shore of the lake. Here, the company concentrates its production on a single grape variety, Turbiana—that variety of Trebbiano that gives the area its identity—offering it in bianco, superiore, and riserva versions. It is a work of specialization rather than breadth. Each bottle reaches a minimum of eleven degrees alcohol and bears the mineral matrix that the glacial soils of the Brescia shore transmit to the grapes. The lake is not merely a backdrop but an active agent: its currents slow down maturation and favor dry and elegant profiles, where freshness remains the dominant characteristic. The single denomination, interpreted through three levels of structure, thus becomes a scale for understanding the same terroir, from the more direct bianco to the more complex riserva. A Desenzano-style Lugana, rooted in the company's vineyards and consistent with the lacustrine character that defines it.
