Albino Piona

On the morainic hills south of Lake Garda, in Villafranca di Verona, Albino Piona has cultivated the soils of Custoza since 1893, now with the fourth generation at the helm. The Custoza DOC denomination takes shape from a blend of Garganega, Trebbiano Toscano, and Cortese, grapes that summer heat concentrates to yield whites with a defined aromatic profile. The range spans the entire spectrum of the denomination, from dry and immediate whites to more structured reserve versions with greater aging potential. What distinguishes their approach is a fidelity to natural methods, refined over more than a century, tailored to the character of the morainic landscape—gravels and clays deposited by ancient glaciers.
