ALDEGHI ANTONIO

In Trequanda, among the twelve municipalities of the Orcia DOC in southern Siena, Aldeghi Antonio crafts its wines around Sangiovese, the cornerstone of the denomination's reds. The regulations here remain among the strictest in the region: a minimum alcohol content of 11.5%, white grapes limited to 10%, a varietal architecture that leaves little room for improvisation. From this regulatory framework, red, riserva, and rosato wines are born, offering three interpretations of the same territory rather than a scattered range. The calcareous and clayey soils of Val d'Orcia impart a distinctly territorial character to the wines, where the structure of Sangiovese finds support in the soil composition. The single denomination within which the company operates serves as a declared perimeter: not a broad container to be filled, but a stringent set of regulations that guides cellar and vineyard choices. The result is a wine that bears the inscribed rules of Orcia—the strictness regarding varietal proportions, the centrality of Sangiovese—as a legible signature of a less domesticated Tuscany.
