Amato S.R.L.
Piraino · Province of Messina · Sicilia
Since 1927, the Amato family has been working in Piraino, on the Tyrrhenian side of the Messina province, where three generations have refined their understanding of Sicily's many enological souls. Their work revolves around two regional denominations, Sicilia DOC and Sicilia IGP, which frame a range of reds, whites, and rosés sourced from some of the island's most suitable areas. Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese lead the red grape varieties, alongside other indigenous grapes that the winery interprets, seeking both varietal character and fidelity to their origin. The two labels — one with a controlled designation, the other with a geographical indication — do not overlap but cover different registers of the same landscape, from more pronounced structure to the minerality that marks the identity of Sicilian wines. This approach foregoes the more famous sub-zones to tell the story of Sicily in its broader scope, filtered through nearly a century of family craft honed between vineyard and cellar.
